Recognizing FallaciesConstructing sound arguments requires valid logic and reasoning. If your premises (reasoning) are incorrect they are considered to be “fallacies”. There are several different types of fallacies that exist. Once you recognize the fallacies you are more likely to avoid them in your reasoning.(Hint: refer to textbook Chapter 11 for more information on fallacies.)1. Match each fallacy with its definition in the chart below.A. Begging the question                                 G. Appeal to fear       H. Questionable causeB. Hasty generalizationC. False dilemmaI. Two wrongs make a rightD Slippery slope                                                       J. Misidentification of the causeE. Appeal to authorityF. Bandwagon___. Also known as circular reasoning because the reasoning assumes the conclusion is true.___. Sometimes occurs due to “peer pressure” or groupthink phenomenon when you may be influenced to conform to the opinion of the group.___. A causal situation where we are unsure of the actual root cause of the issue. It’s possible to ignore a possible cause or to incorrectly assume a common cause.___. This argument states that the action (or conclusion) is a justified response to another wrong action (or conclusion).___. This occurs when there is no real evidence for the argument. Superstitions are a good example of this.___. The “either/or” fallacy – the argument presents only two extreme alternatives and does not allow for alternative options.___. Indicates that one negative action will lead to another, and then another worse one, and so on and so forth all leading to a terrible end result___. Basing a belief on a source or person who is not qualified to give an expert opinion on the subject.___. The argument supports its conclusion not by evidence, but by demands or threats of punishment or misfortune.___. A general conclusion is reached based on a very small sample, so the reasons provide weak support for the conclusion.Deductive ArgumentIn a deductive argument, the premises (reasoning) provide such strong support for the conclusion that, if the premises are true, then it would be impossible for the conclusion to be false. Deductive arguments are VALID or INVALID.EXAMPLE:Valid – All children are young. Johnny is a child. Therefore, Johnny is young.Invalid – All children are young. Johnny is a child. Therefore, all children are Johnny.Complete each deductive argument below with a valid conclusion.2. Premise 1: All humans are mortal.Premise 2: I am human. Conclusion: Therefore, I am _______________3. Premise 1: All birds have feathers.Premise 2: Cardinals are birds. Conclusion: Therefore, cardinals have _______________4. Premise 1: There is a party at work today.Premise 2: Jimmy is sick and not at work today. Conclusion: Therefore, Jimmy will _______________Inductive ArgumentAn inductive argument is an argument that is strong enough that, if the premises (reasoning) were to be true, then it would be unlikely that the conclusion is false. So inductive arguments are STRONG or WEAK depending on the strength and frequency of the premises (reasoning).EXAMPLE:Strong – 74% of 20-year-old have a job. 89% of 30-year-olds have a job. Most 20- to 30-year-olds are employed.Weak: John, 20, has a job. Mary, 30, has a job. Most 20- to 30-year olds are employed.**The first argument is much stronger due to the fact that the sample size is much larger.Complete each inductive argument below with a conclusion. Your conclusion may be strong or weak depending upon the strength of your premises.5. Premise 1: Four-year-old Jeremiah likes to play with blocks.Premise 2: Four-year-old Mary likes to play with blocks. Conclusion: Four-year-old children at the daycare center probably _____________6. Premise 1: Jill studies two hours a day.Premise 2: Jill is on the honor roll. Conclusion: Students who study two hours a day are most likely _____________7. Premise 1: The houses on Washington Avenue are falling apart according to a real estate developer.Premise 2: Christopher lives on Washington Avenue. Conclusion: Christopher’s house is more than likely _____________Evaluating ArgumentsEvaluate the strength of each argument below based on the criteria for deductive and inductive arguments. Explain why you believe the argument and conclusion is valid or strong, OR invalid or weak.8. Deductive argument: To graduate from UMA, Sally must pass all of her classes. Sally passed all of her classes at UMA. Therefore, Sally will graduate from UMA.a. Is this argument valid or invalid?Type answer hereb. Explain your answerType answer here9. Inductive argument: I have a sore tooth. I also have a headache. Conclusion: I must have a cavity.a. Is this argument strong or weak?Type answer hereb. Explain your answerType answer here10. week 4 assignment-Outside Reading Assignment

The history of psychology is built upon understanding the work of particular individuals throughout history. Your textbook mentions several major and minor contributors to the understanding of psychology’s history. However, the textbook is one interpretation of the writings and thoughts of these historical figures. To have a better understanding of those thoughts, you need to read samples of the original works. For this assignment, you will research something that has been written by an individual from the time period(s) being studied (choose a name from the textbook readings) this week. The work must be something written by the chosen person, but need only be a sample of the chosen historical work and involve only a few pages of writing. Make sure the writing deals with the topics being covered this week. There are several sources to use to obtain the works; the best place to start is to search for the person’s name on the Internet using Google but you can only utilize this to find information about the person. Use an original historical work by an author of your choice, but keep in mind that Outside Reading Rubric you should use peer-reviewed, academic sources for the analysis of this work. You can most easily find these in the South University Online Library. You can use the textbook to support your work, but do not use it as the primary source. This is an outside reading assignment. After reading the material, answer these questions:What were the main points of the writing? What were the differences and similarities between what you read and what was written about the individual in the textbook?Based on your own views of psychology, how does the author’s viewpoint fit into your current understanding of psychology?

HW help

Each article summary should be prepared with 5 separate paragraphs of text organized under separate section headings (e.g., Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, Stance). Your goal is to extract the key points from each section so the reader can read the review and understand the purpose, rationale, method, results, and implications of the study (discussed in language a layperson can understand). The review must be in your own words! Do not simply copy directly from the article – prove to me that you can explain the key points. The following bullet points should be used to guide your reading of the article and writing each section of the summary.Locate a stress and health article of interest published between 2012 and 2020 from an academic journal of your choosingProvide the reference to the article in APA Style (seehttps://goo.gl/UBSCcI (Links to an external site.)).IntroductionWhat is the purpose of the article and how or why is the study important and/or relevant to motivational psychology (broadly)? What are the main study hypotheses and/or research questions?MethodsWhat sample was used and how was the sample obtained? What were the key independent and dependent variables in the study? How can the overall study be described in terms of research design (i.e., descriptive, observational, correlational, quasi-experimental, experimental)?ResultsWhat were the key findings for each hypothesis or research question? Were findings significant, non-significant?What was the magnitude or strength of significant findings? Were any additional results obtained that were unexpected or contrary to the hypotheses or research questions?DiscussionWhat conclusions did the authors reach in regard to the results? What implications do the study findings have? What limitations are present?StanceState two ways you might apply this research to your own life or career/practice (e.g., highlighting its strengths or implications), each as a single sentence, and number them.Examine the impact these findings have on our understanding of human psychology; in other words, what can you conclude from the study and why are the results of this study important?

Discussion Board Assignment

In your final chapter you reviewed different types of therapies. Please name one type, explain what it is and how you think it helps individuals the most.”Remember you MUST reply directly to the question and then reply to 2 classmates for full credit (10/10 points). If you do not reply 3 times you will not receive credit for the assignment (0/10). This assignment is due Friday, December 3rd at 12pm. I look forward to reading your final discussion board entries.First student replyCognitive behavioral therapy works to change cognitive distortions and self-defeating behaviors. This therapy helps individuals learn to think before they speak or do something. It helps individuals the most because it allows them to make better decisions when put in bad/awkward situations.second student replyPlay Therapy is an important type of therapy for kids because they are able to use dolls and toys to act out their hopes, fantasies, and traumas. This type of therapy is also used to make diagnosis by observing how the child interacts with the toys to understand the child’s disturbed behavior. I think its more helpful for both ends. The observer could understand the role play more and the kids can actually act out scenarios they have been through and I think they may be more comfortable doing it that way

Please feel free to discuss any other material that you feel is relevant and interests you.  In addition, respond to, at least, one or two posts from other students.1.  Piaget’s theory of cognitive development is popular in developmental psychology.  Discuss his theory and apply his concepts to your own lifespan development.2.  Discuss the various styles of attachment and how they influence romantic love, as well as parenting styles.  Try to apply the styles to your own life experiences.3.  What do you think it will be like to grow older in our society?  What are the implications and consequences for the elderly?  Since we are New Yorkers, what do you think it is like to grow old in an urban environment, as compared to a suburban or rural environment?Chapter 10 – Lifespan Development II1.  Discuss Kohlberg’s theory of moral development, and how you think it applies to other cultures.  What do you think of the possible gender bias of Kohlberg’s theory?  Try to give both cultural and gender examples.2.  Discuss both or either of the neurodevelopmental disorders, in our chapter, that interest you.  Do you think ADHD is over diagnosed? Why or why not?  Are vaccines related to ASD? Should parents not vaccinate their children?
