Business Ethics and Beatrix Potter’s The Tale of Ginger and Pickles, business and finance homework help

Written Assignment 1: Business Ethics and Beatrix Potter’s The Tale of Ginger and Pickles

In Beatrix Potter’s tale, Pickles (a terrier) and Ginger (a cat) were co-owners of a village shop that sells various household goods, such as flour, sugar, and candy. They were very generous with their customers, giving them unlimited credit for the items they buy. As a result of their graciousness, the customers “came in crowds every day and bought quantities, especially the toffee customers.”1 But as Pickles and Ginger came to realize, there was always no money, and the customers “never paid for as much as a pennyworth of peppermints.” That said, their business thrived and “the sales were enormous, ten times as large as Tabitha Twitchit’s.” Tabitha Twitchit owned the only other shop in the village. Her sales were low because she never accepted credit. One solemn day, however, the good fortune of Pickles and Ginger came to an end: without profits, they simply could no longer operate their store and had no alternative but to shut down. Now, as the only shop in the area, Tabitha Twitchit immediately raised her prices, causing a “great inconvenience” and financial hardship for the villagers. For the next year or so, they had no choice but to pay Tabitha’s exorbitant prices. One can only imagine how delighted they were, however, when Sally Henny Penny re-opened Pickles and Ginger’s shop. She sent out a poster reading “Penny’s penny prices! Come try, come buy!” The shop was “crammed with customers” and she offered a “remarkable assortment of bargains.” Yet, unlike Pickles and Ginger, Sally Henny Penny insisted on being paid cash and did not accept credit. In time, her shop became hugely popular among the villagers and a great financial success. Sally Henny Penny was cherished by all.

Identify and explain the various approaches to ethical reasoning in Potter’s tale. How do they apply to the business practices of Pickles and Ginger, Tabitha Twitchit, and Sally Henny Penny? Were they out-come or duty-based? Who demonstrated the highest ethical behavior, and who the least? What impact did each character’s actions have upon the village community? Use the legal and philosophical terms and concepts from your textbook readings.

Social media objectives, marketing homework help

Question: Social media objectives are listed in Chapter 18 in section 18-2b. Identify the company’s primary social media objectives based on actual communications on its social networking site. Be sure to provide examples.

Social Media outlet: Facebook

Company: NIKE

Needs to be at least 150 words.

18-2b: Social Media Objectives are as follows:

After establishing a listening platform, the organization should develop a list of objectives for its social media team to accomplish. These objectives must be developed with a clear understanding of how social media change the communication dynamic with and for customers. Remember—attempting to reach a mass audience with a static message will never be as successful as influencing people through conversation. Marketing managers must set objectives that reflect this reality. Here are some practical ideas that marketing managers should consider when setting social media objectives:

·LISTEN AND LEARN: Monitor what is being said about the brand and competitors, and glean insights about audiences. Use online tools and do research to implement the best social media practices. If you have established a listening strategy, this objective should already be accomplished.

·BUILD RELATIONSHIPS AND AWARENESS: Open dialogues with stakeholders by giving them compelling content across a variety of media. Engage in conversations, and answer customers’ questions candidly. This will both increase Web traffic and boost your search engine ranking. This is where crowdsourcing can be useful for product development and communication campaign feedback.

·PROMOTE PRODUCTS AND SERVICES: The clearest path to increasing the bottom line using social media is to get customers talking about products and services, which ultimately translates into sales.

·MANAGE YOUR REPUTATION: Develop and improve the brand’s reputation by responding to comments and criticism that appear on blogs and forums. Additionally, organizations can position themselves as helpful and benevolent by participating in other forums and discussions. Social media make it much easier to establish and communicate expertise.

·IMPROVE CUSTOMER SERVICE: Customer comments about products and services will not always be positive. Use social media to search out displeased customers and engage them directly in order to solve their service issues.

Probation and Punishment

In the scenarios and resulting simulations, Robert Donovan, a Jurisville probation officer, discusses the intricacies of probation. Kris, the defendant, is offered an intensive supervised probation plan to follow. Brennan Brooke, a senior criminologist, discusses the tailoring of the inmate to the appropriate facility. Finally, Orlando Boyce, a sergeant at the fictional Deephall correctional facility, discusses measures that could conceivably make prison life effective and thus decrease the likelihood of recidivism.

Write a three to four (3-4) page paper in which you:

  1. Outline your findings from your review of the file of Kris, for whom Robert is considering probation. State whether or not your results from the file review match Robert’s. Explain two (2) instances in which your views and those of Robert are both similar and different.
  2. Develop a profile of the so-called perfect candidate to participate in an intensive supervised probation program. The profile should contain at least three (3) attributes that you believe make this defendant the perfect candidate for this type of probation.
  3. Defend or critique the strategy of matching the inmate to the correctional facility as a response to the legal concept of cruel and unusual punishment. Provide a rationale for your position with concrete examples.
  4. Defend or critique whether programs and amenities geared to making prison life effective—which run the gamut from hiring extra officers, to counseling and therapy, to building a garden—are time and taxpayer money well spent.
  5. Use at least three (3) quality resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia and similar Websites do not qualify as quality resources.

Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:
