Assignment Overview

The competitive organizational strategy of an organization as a whole becomes the basis for human resource strategic planning. Human resource planning can be described as the process of analyzing and identifying the need for human resources to meet an organization’s mission. At the core of human resource strategic planning is the knowledge gained from scanning the external and internal environments for changes that will impact staffing and recruitment initiatives. When scanning the external environment, human resource professionals evaluate political influences (e.g., government regulation of HR activities such as being in compliance with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission or Wagner Act), study economic conditions (e.g., recessions or booms), and analyze societal trends (e.g., millennials entering the workforce). Internally, the reputation of an organization for how employees are treated and the organization’s overall culture are determining factors for many potential employees who are seeking employment. Thus, human resource professionals are tasked with making sure that the organization is attractive to all potential employees.

Then, drawing on the material in the background readings and doing additional research, please prepare a 4-5 page paper (not including the cover and reference pages) in which you:

• Develop a strategy for human resource planning for your current place of employment (e.g., will there be a partnership with unions).
• Evaluate the short term and long term implications of internal and external scanning.
• Discuss the changes you would implement as a human resource professional to your current place of employment to make the organization more attractive for potential employees.
• What trainings could you provide?
• Discuss the importance of using performance improvement programs/plans.

Assignment Expectations

Your paper will be evaluated on the following points:

• Precision – Does the paper address the question(s) or task(s)?
• Clarity – Is the writing clear and the concepts articulated properly? Are paraphrasing and synthesis of concepts the primary means of response to the questions, or are excessive use of quotations how thoughts are conveyed? Are headings included in all papers greater than 2 pages?
• Breadth – Is the full breadth of the subject addressed?
• Depth – Does the paper address the topic in sufficient depth?
• Grammar, spelling and vocabulary – Is the paper written well – is the grammar, spelling, and vocabulary suitable to graduate level work?
• Referencing (citations and references) – Does the paper use citations and quotation marks when appropriate?
• Critical thinking – Is the subject thought about critically, i.e., accurately, logically, relevantly, and precisely?

FOIA Legal Memorandum and Form

Our client, Captain Jack Sparrow, was involved in a boating accident on Anderson Lake, Illinois. His boat was hit by another boat and it caused severe property damage and personal injury. There were several passengers on the other boat and the police completed a report. He wants us to sue the owner of the other boat. Our client didn’t get a copy of the accident report and we would like to interview all of the passengers. Your supervising attorney has asked you to file a Freedom of Information Request with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) in order to obtain a regular copy of the accident report. He also has many questions about filing the FOIA. He would like to know the following:

1. How do we submit a FOIA request to the Illinois DNR?
2. What happens after we submit the FOIA request?
3. What is the response time for a FOIA request?
4. Is there a charge for the accident report and how do we pay?

Assignment 3: Acquiring a Contract with the Navy

Due Week 6 and worth 300 points

Based on the same scenario as in Assignments 1 and 2, you are ready to begin considering the factors needed for your proposal based on RFP #123456789, dated 07/14/2014. Remember that another local competitor intends to submit a proposal as well.

Before beginning this assignment, review FAR Subpart 19.5—Set-Asides for Small Business.

Additional factors to consider are:

1. Both your company and your competitor’s company will qualify under the HUBZone Act (FAR 19.5). 
2. Based upon the scope of work required, your initial estimates for the contract will exceed $150,000. Therefore, you are willing to offer incentives to the Navy.
3. Your competitor intends to submit a proposal for a one (1) year contract.

Write a six to eight (6-8) page paper in which you:

1. Examine two (2) reasons why your business would qualify under the basic concepts of the HUBZone Set-Aside Procedures. Provide a rationale for your response.
2. Analyze the primary way(s) in which a multiyear contract would benefit both the Navy and your business.
3. Determine whether your bid proposal should be based on a fixed-price, a cost-reimbursement, or a time-and-materials type of contract. Provide a rationale for your response.
4. Determine the category of incentives that you are willing to offer (i.e., cost, schedule, or performance). Provide a rationale for your response.
5. Determine whether your bid proposal should be a technical, management, or cost proposal. Provide a rationale for your response.
6. Speculate on five (5) potential risk factors that you will need to consider if your company is awarded the contract. Provide a rationale for your response.
7. Use at least three (3) quality references  Note: Wikipedia and other related websites do not qualify as academic resources. 

Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

• Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
• Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length.

What Is a Family History?

A family history is a record of a family and of the lives of family members. It is usually written as a book, and this lesson will give ideas and instructions on writing a family history book. But a family history can take many forms, including the following:

• A record of your family with you as a child, containing recollections of your parents and other living ancestors.
• A record of your family with you as a parent, containing recollections of your children and your other descendants.
• A written history of an ancestor containing several generations of family information going back in time.
• A n ancestral family history with a chapter for the couple you start with and additional chapters for each descendant family.
• A collection of family traditions and their origins.
• Newsletters.
• Time capsules.
• Family organization books.
• Posters.
• A genetic family history, which identifies specific physical traits (eye color, height, weight, complexion, and so on), causes of death, family illnesses.
• Family recipe collections.
• Heritage albums. More than a scrapbook; a heritage album is a record of the life of a family and includes photographs, documents, and so on.
• A record of your findings and experiences as you begin with one ancestor and work backwards, a story of research and discoveries.

Why Create a Family History?

A family history can be a great blessing to you and to your posterity and those who come after you. You and they can learn from the events, thoughts, and growth in your life and in the lives of your ancestors, even from those things that may otherwise seem mundane. Among the reasons to create a family history are the following:

• People want to know who they are and where they come from.
• A family history can help you gain knowledge and appreciation for those who have gone before you, where and how they lived, why they made the choices they made, and how they shaped the family’s future.
• It will help you gain greater understanding of yourself and how you fit in the overall picture of your family.
• It will help preserve family stories for future generations.

You will never finish gathering family information or researching your ancestors, so don’t put off writing; you can always do a second volume to include new information you discover. Or you can do a binder of stories, which is easy to update.

Set a realistic time schedule. This will be a big project. Schedule enough time to gather information, organize it, and compile it into a finished format.
