Virtue ethics in organization study, discussion help

Please provide a short response to this student’s weekly conversation

In the example given about John Smith, I searched around to find more information befitting the Virtue ethics subject. Some information was on 20th century philosophy in respect to virtue ethics, to even talking about theory, but I final found information on a BBC webpage I thought fit this example perfectly. The webpage Virtue Ethics (2014) says “Virtue ethics is person rather than action based, it looks at the virtue or moral character of the person carrying out an action, rather than at ethical duties and rules, or the consequences of particular actions. Virtue ethics not only deals with the rightness or wrongness of individual actions, it provides guidance as to the sort of characteristics and behaviors a good person will seek to achieve.”

From the example I see Jim as a professional, and a person who is very good at his job, but in his “eagerness to maximize profits” he chooses to do the wrong thing. It may have been his moral character of being such a good accountant, and knowing that everyone looks at him as a brilliant mind, or that he feels he is the only one to make things happen. Either way his moral compass was off, and his character I feel was an influence in the decisions he made.

Business Discussion

For this discussion activity, your scavenger hunt will consist of finding an example of where an organization and management excelled in taking care of and motivating employees, and then provide an example or experience where an organization failed in this area. Remember these examples can come from any organization. If you do find applicable information on your own organization while working on this discussion, use it where applicable in your own SWOT analysis. These examples can be from current events, historical instances, or classic examples, in video or print.

Conduct a web search seeking two examples of where you believe an organization’s human resource department has performed exceptionally well or failed terribly in motivating employees and creating an environment where employees want to be loyal and stay with the organization.

  • Discuss what you found during your web search.
  • Provide a description of how effective motivational techniques can and do affect all managers and organizations.

In response to your colleagues:

  • Discuss any personal experiences you have had with human resources (both good and bad) and discuss some of the ways you’ve been motivated in the workplace.
  • Discuss any similarities or differences with your own perceptions.

As with each discussion, when responding to your fellow classmates’ posts, you need to discuss their examples and experiences and present different thoughts and ideas on how best to approach and resolve these issues. In addition, as we work through the discussion, remember your own SWOT analysis and consider the information gained here as you work on your assignments this week.

Things to Remember!

  • Post a 2 to 4 paragraph discussion post (300 words minimum). Justify your explanations by including in-text citations and references in APA format as applicable.
  • Post your primary response on the discussion board by Thursday at 11:59 p.m. EST. Be sure to review your writing for grammar and spelling before posting. Read any postings already provided by your instructor or fellow students.
  • Read and respond to at least two of your classmates. Remember to read the feedback to your own major postings and reply to it throughout the module.

Use resources to properly cite your work:

Did Jim and Laura Buy a Car, law homework help

Jim and Laura Buyer visit the local car dealership because they are interested in buying a new car. The car they currently have is aging and is starting to have mechanical problems. Jim and Laura would share the new car, and use it to go back and forth to work and school. Before going to the dealership, Jim and Laura decide that they can only afford $400.00 a month in car payments.

Once at the car dealership, Jim and Laura meet Stan Salesman. Stan shows them several vehicles and Jim and Laura test-drive several of the cars. Jim and Laura particularly like the blue 4-door sedan.  Therefore, they agree to give Stan Salesman a $100.00 deposit to hold the car for a day. Stan Salesman does not give them the receipt but guarantees that the $100.00 is refundable. No documents were signed.

The next day, Stan Salesman calls Jim and Laura to ask them when they would like to take delivery of the car. Jim and Laura, on the way home from the dealership, decided that they were not going to buy the car because they did not want to spend that money each month. Therefore, Jim and Laura tell Stan salesman that they have decided not to buy the car and request their $100.00 deposit back.

Stan insists that the $100.00 was a deposit on the car and was meant to be part of the contract to buy the car. Stan is very persistent and insistent that Jim and Laura have contracted to buy the car; therefore, the $100.00 will be applied to the purchase price of the car. Jim and Laura are shocked and angry as not only do they not want to spend the money, but now feel as though they are being duped by Stan Salesman.

Jim and Laura have an appointment to see a lawyer in a few days, but know you are a student taking a business law class and come to you for advice. They are very frazzled, and understandably upset that they may have just purchased a car. Since you have been taking business law, you have read and understand the elements of a contract and the defenses to a contract. Therefore, although you are not a lawyer, you provide some basic advice from what you’ve learned in your business law class.

In three to five (3-5) pages, advise Jim and Laura based on the above facts as presented, the material provided in the text, and material covered in the lecture. In your paper, be sure to address the following:

  1. Define the elements of a legal contract using examples from the scenario where applicable.
  2. Decide whether or not there was a contract for the purchase of the automobile.
  3. Identify the facts from the scenario which support your decision on whether or not a contract exists for the purchase of the automobile.
  4. Use at least two (2) quality academic resources in this assignment
