Prepare an activity involving a geometric manipulative designed to teach a geometric concept to an elementary school student. You can create your own activity or modify an existing activity; if you are modifying an existing activity, however, ensure your sources are properly cited.Create a Lesson Plan including the following information:Detailed description of your activity, which must include the application of the characteristics and properties of the chosen geometric manipulativeInstructions for conducting the activityMaterials neededState standards addressed by your activityAssessment strategies for your activityDiscussion question with a 100 wordsWhat activities would you implement in your classroom to engage students and help them to easily identify and classify various polygons, such as triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons, hexagons, octagons, and decagons?RESPOND TO STUDENTS POSTS IN A 100 WORDSKEA POSTIn Chapter 12, the technique covered was the similarities in shapes and sizes of triangles.  Theorems were given to find the degrees of different angles and how to find if sides of triangles are equal or congruent to one another.  It is easy to look at two Triangles and they may appear to be the same exact size; however when measurement are taken or when the degrees of the angles are taken the shapes are ultimately not the same.  The same is true with circles and other shapes as well. This chapter clarifies some of those elements.SARAH POSTThis chapter was very interesting to read and it had a lot of great information in it. The first section talked about similar and congruent objects. I actually knew what that meant. What threw me off was the rep-tile, which is a figure that is used to construct a larger, similar figure by using repetition. In this section it also talked about altitude of a triangle, which is the perpendicular segment from a vertex of the triangle to th line containing the opposite side of the triangle. In section two of this chapter it talked about the properties of quadrilaterals, most of these were things that I already knew. What I didn’t know that there was an actual shape called convex kite and concave kite. Those were shapes that we really didn’t talk about in elementary school, so they are completely new to me. Section four of this chapter had talked about similar shapes and this was something that I knew about and it was a refresher. Since this chapter had so much information in it, I am going to reread it just to make sure that I understand everything correctly.ALONDRA POSTGeometric construction is a useful tool that helps create drafting and design. Measurements must be accurate to ensure the structure is concrete and solid to sustain anything. The architecture design will show the length and height of an entire structure. Many online programs help develop a floor plan obeys the state standard code. Fewer people are using the actual measuring tape, ruler or compass due to the advances in technology. However, I believe there will always be some adjustment in measurement to get the best outcome of a structure. I find this math concept fascinating because my husband was a construction worker in Las Vegas and was part of building The Cosmopolitan, Aria, West Gate at Planet Hollywood and was fun to watch the building go up from nothing to a beautiful building. My husband always carried a measuring tape, ruler, and pencil if there were adjustments to be made.
