hum discussion

This week we turn to the question of fishing and the moral issues we currently face because of the massive fishing industry humans have created and the fact that it is not sustainable at this level of fishing.According to the web site Mercy for Animals: “Between 1970 and 2012, the number of fish and other aquatic animals dropped 49 percent primarily due to overfishing, according to a report from the World Wildlife Fund and the Zoological Society of London” (Julie Cappiello, June 2017, mercyforanimals.org).Here is a brief video excerpt from the 2014 Planet Ocean movie:LINK (Links to an external site.).Please discuss the problem of overfishing and the problem that Alexandra Paul in her TedTalk calls the problem that no one will discuss (see video below).   Here are the questions. How can humankind balance the consumption of fish and the prevention of man-made extinction of species of fish?   Or is the problem of overfishing part of the problem of natural resource depletion across the planet, and, if so, how do we address this massive environmental problem? Is the overfishing problem part of the problem that Alexandra Paul calls “the problem no one will discuss”?  Here is her 8.5 minute Ted Talk.  What do you think about the problem she dares to discuss?LINK (Links to an external site.)
